ACABS Update

Dear all,

Firstly, I must apologise on the ACABS email issues that some of you encountered, you didn't receive emails from ACABS email account. (As result I have to send this email from my personal account.) It has been an ongoing issue for a while now. It is mainly caused by the recipient client recognise the sender domain as a spam, so emails are deleted without notice to the recipient or the sender. I am now working with the webmaster to resolve this issue, if can’t, I am looking into change to a different bulk email distribution provider. When we have 400-500 email addresses it is a bit hard to manage manually.

I have opened the ACABS membership registration for 2018-2019 now. Please pay your membership fee via this link https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=33102 The membership fees are unchanged for this year.

For those of you didn’t hear about the new president of ACABS, again I am apologising the IT issue caused communication failure. Dr Hong-Jian Zhu will be ACABS’s next president. He will officially take over from Dr Ruchong Ou at the next Annual General Meeting in early Feb next year. I believe Dr Zhu will lead the ACABS into the next phase of development and generate even more impacts to the wider biotech community in Australia and China. I encourage everyone to show your participation and support to ACABS and Dr Zhu’s leadership.

I would like to thank Dr Ruchong Ou as the President for the last 4 years and Acting President of 2 years. He has made a tremendous contribution to the ACABS. I think everyone can see the achievement he made, I am not here to repeat them again. I believe, he will continue to serve the ACABS in many other ways for many years to come.

After the long 6 years as the secretary of the ACABS, I may have to say good-bye as well. I would like some fresh minds to take over and plenish the association with new ideas and enthusiasm. I will continue to fulfill the role of secretary during the transition period and hand over to the new person. I would like to thank everyone for your support in the last 6 years.

Finally, on the behalf of the current Executive Committee, and Dr Hong-Jian Zhu, I wish you an enjoyable and safe holiday and Happy New Year. I am looking forward to see you at the AGM in Feb 2019.

Best regards

Dr Eddie Yan

ACABS Secretary
